Matter of Opinion

Four teams took part in our Matter of Opinion competition which might have been held on April 1st but there were no fools there! The teams provided us with an excellent evening of entertainment providing their opinions on statements as diverse as ‘ Scotland welcomes tourists – truth or myth? ‘ to ‘ Future generations will be less likely to celebrate their silver wedding anniversary’ and ‘ How society cares for its elderly is a sign of its level of civilisation. Should the state or families take responsibility?’.

Each team comprised a Chairman who introduced the team and summed up their opinions and three panellists. A good number of our competitors were novices to this competition which was great to see and didn’t they do well!

We were very grateful to Mrs Karen Stewart and Mr John Brown for their adjudications. Both had cut their speech-making teeth in Young Farmers but were very impressed by the standard of the competition. After some difficult deliberations Eassie & Nevay were announced as winners with Jean Cook awarded Best Chair (outwith the winning team) and Jean Alexander Best Panellist.

Well done to all the competitors and those who came along to support them.
