I have been delighted to see some Institutes having meetings outside recently. It is so good to meet in person again after such a difficult and worrying time. Although there may be more restrictions ahead, we can currently meet up in limited numbers.
Unfortunately, we are unable to hold our Triennial Conference in September this year but hope to have a combined Conference and AGM on 30th April, 2022 at Perth Concert Hall. The Ruralympics has also been postponed until 23rd April, 2022 in the hope that there will be fewer restrictions and members will be happy to attend then.
The September week is rapidly approaching and I hope that many Institutes will meet somewhere. The #backTogetherBlether will be enjoyable for all. We have excellent speakers during the week. These will all be on the Womankind Zoom log in – meeting ID 875 8883 8838, Passcode “Friendship”. Denise Mina, Ramsay McGhee, George Anderson, Sheena Norquay and Gary Maclean will provide some interesting, entertaining and informative talks. The “Rural Ramble” will round off a week of fun and friendship throughout Scotland. Please remember to take photographs of your adventures and send them to our magazine editor [email protected]

The SWI National golf competition will be on Monday, 23rd August at Portpatrick Dunskey Golf Club, kindly hosted by Wigtownshire Federation. I look forward to meeting the golfers and supporters there. Our next National event will hopefully be the Outdoor Bowling competition.
Currently there are several competitions running:-
*Design and make an outfit for Fergus the SWI bear. The closing date is 24th September, 2021. Further details of the competition and Fergus’ measurements are on the SWI website www.theswi.org.uk in the members area download section.
*Knitted hats and knitted socks competition also with the 24th September closing date. Again, full details are in the members’ area download section of the website.
*The Education and International Committee Art competition closing date is 1st October, 2021.
The entry submitted must be based on the following poem, you may interpret the poem in any way you wish: Sea Fever (1902) – John Masefield. Oils/Acrylics, Watercolours & Any Other Medium are all allowed.
*2021 WARNOCK TROPHY COMPETITION ‘The Best Bits of Lockdown’ – Short Story about the positive experiences of lockdown (max 500 words). Closing date is 22nd October.
Application forms are also available for the Scottish Country Dance weekend from 18th-20th March, 2022 and the Study tour to the Cotswolds from 2nd -6th May, 2022.
