What a lovely afternoon we had celebrating 100 years of Angus Federation SWI. The Strathmore Hall was looking resplendant with market stalls displaying items of interest from all Institutes, Floral displays by Joy Spence, table arrangemets supplied by each Institute and some extra flowers and twinkly lights to set the scene. A glass of prosecco, orange or apple juice was offered to guests as they arrived.
Our President Alison Sewart welcomed 320 members and our invited guests and handed over to Joe Wishart, our MC for the afternoon who entertained us with wit and charm. Norah Meikle, a past Federation President, presented an acrostic poem entitled Angus giving her thoughts and experiences in the ‘Rural’ and Anne Kerr, our National President , gave an account of how the SWI is looking forward and proposed a toast to Angus Federation.
Shona Grant of Auchterhouse SWI had made a beautiful cake (decorated by members of Auchterhouse SWI). Past President Rosemary Nicol (1975 – 1981) did us the honour of cutting the cake alongside our current President.
A beautiful afternoon tea was served courtesy of Alison Beattie Catering and her merry team of helpers. Everone thoroughly enjoyed the fare on offer and the cheery waitresses. During this time we enjoyed music by ‘This Girl Gail’ and a friend who played accoustic guitar and provided vocals.
Proceeding were drawn to a close by Rona Nicolson who gave a vote of thanks to all those who had contributed to making the day such a special event and Robbie Coupar, a last minute stand in for our piper who had COVID, piped us out.
A great day out in true rural style!
